An item should be at least 100 years old to be defined as an antique. Any item no older than an antique but not less than 20 years falls under the term vintage. It generally implies that a vintage of at least fifteen or twenty years.

How To Tell If Something Is True Antique

Look carefully at the bottom, sides and back of the drawer; if the wood shows nicks or cuts, it was probably cut with a plane, a spokeshave, or a drawknife.

Straight saw also indicate an old piece.
If the wood shows circular or arc-shaped marks, it was cut by a circular saw, not in use until about 1860.
